2010 Baltimore - Interview with MADMAN creator Mike Allred and his way more talented wife, Laura.
Mike Allred was probably the most influential writer / artist for me. I’d been hoping to meet him for a long time. He was supposed to be at the 2009 Baltimore Comic Con but his wife, Laura, was sick. They both showed up to this one and I had the best time conversing with both of them. Regaling in my Mercury spill and (subsequent) poisoning and then, the following day, talking about how my then X-Girlfriend had to be hauled off by the police from our hotel room the night before. Laura Told me I should stay away from her and never speak to her again. Best advice I’ve ever received from a professional in the Industry, because now I have an awesome girlfriend! Ahhh, good times.
I could’ve sworn that Laura Allred has received one, if not numerous awards for her coloring. I’m going to have to go back and check on that.
MADMAN the movie? Okay - well, It’s been in Limbo for a loooong time. Rumors of Elisha Wood playing the lead have been in the rumor mill for years (Luckily he’s caught in some sort of non aging time warp - so he’ll always be good for the part whenever it’s made. And Robert Rodriguez (A close personal friend of the Allreds) will be handling the film.
The Allreds are truly the most friendly and most talented (couple) in the industry. I look forward to seeing them at the 2012 Baltimore Con
