HEROES 2011 An Interview with 50 year Veteran Sergio Aragones
I want to be able to grow a moustache like Sergio. I honestly think that any man’s (and possibly some women) first thought is “I want to be able to grow that mustache” But Sergio is Italian and old (Or something not American, that is for sure - he's got that wild old accent, I tell you!) Neither you nor I can grow that moustache.
Oh hey - Sergio - You're one of the most famed Cartoonists of my generation. But let me ask you about your appearance on Futurama. That’s exactly what the fan base wants to know about, right?
At least I pulled my head out of my rear to ask about MAD Magazine and GROO. Geez - he’s been working with MAD since 1962. 50 years! 50 years working for MAD. That’s insane. I plan on retiring after 20 years, I don’t even know if I’ll live for 50 years!
He talks about how he wishes Dave Sim lived closer so they could go out and have a beer. I like Sergio, I wish he was my Grandfather.
In my very first meeting with Sergio, I was sort of floored to be standing (er, well, actually kneeling, so I could be eye level with him) in front of the 50 year veteran of Mad Magazine.
All I could think of was to ask who he was at what he thought of Dave Sim (as was the routine on the CeTV Questioning) - Anyways, you can tell that he and Dave do have a really close friendship and you can sort of here the nostalgic reminiscence in Sergio's voice as he speaks about the distance that separates them.
